Kids Judo
Real technique, real discipline, built for kids.
Kids Judo introduces young students to the same throws and principles taught in the adult classes — scaled to their age, attention span, and coordination. Instead of drilling technique in isolation, kids learn judo the way it’s meant to be learned: as a game of balance, timing, and problem-solving against a partner. Along the way, they build the focus, respect, and physical confidence that carry over well beyond the mat.
In Japanese folklore, tanuki are playful and charming creatures that love to have fun and surprise everyone with their clever tricks and antics. Our program incorporates this fun theme while focusing on essential skills. We emphasize coordination, active listening, basic falling techniques, and rolling safety, ensuring each child has a wonderful time. Parents can feel confident that these skills serve as a solid foundation for judo training. Discover what you’ll train:
- Falling safely
- Balance, coordination and body awareness through age appropriate drills
- Foundational throws, grip work, and pins
- Listening and respect for training partners, instructors and the dojo
Kitsune, revered in Japanese folklore, are perceptive and adept fox spirits symbolizing cleverness and skill. - Basic to intermediate throws with combinations
- Grip fighting
- Ground control and escapes
- Submission system
- Throw to ground transition
Adult Judo
Throws, timing, and control — for the first day or the hundredth.
Adult Judo at Renyuken Dojo is built for beginners and experienced grapplers alike. You’ll learn the throws, footwork, and grip fighting that make judo one of the most effective standing arts in the world — and then follow every throw to the ground, where it connects directly into the ground control positions taught throughout the dojo. Classes move at a pace that respects adults that are juggling work, family, and everything else —serious training, without the ego.
In Japanese folklore, Tengu are revered as powerful and disciplined warrior spirits. Our program embodies this spirit by fully integrating judo throws with newaza ground control, ensuring comprehensive technical development for all students. Whether you’re focused on fitness or competition, we provide tailored options to meet your goals. Discover what you’ll train:
- Kuzushi
- Guard system
- Pressure and transition
- Create your own system from standing to submission
- Live, controlled sparring (randori) at a pace matched to your experience level
